White Castle Vineyard

White Castle Vineyard was originally 5 acres of south facing land at Croft Farm, Llanvetherine, where cows once grazed.

Following intensive research into vineyard management and selecting the most suitable grape varieties Robb and Nicola ordered the first vines in November 2008.

May 2009 saw the first 4000 vines planted, the following year a further 800 vines were planted. It took two and a half years from the initial planting to the first harvest in September 2011.

May 2019 marked the vineyards 10 year anniversary since first planting and to mark this milestone Robb and nicola planted a further 2000 vines, these varieties included cabernet Franc, a first for Wales. To date White Castle Vineyard has 13,500 vines planted. For 14 years the grapes have been hand harvested and taken to Three Choirs Winery Newent for processing. Recognising the potential for growth and an increased demand for their exceptional wines Robb and Nicola have established an onsite Y Gwindy “winery” for vintage 2024 firmly positioning its wines as authentic and Welsh.

Quality, Provenance and Integrity are a true reflection of Welsh craftsmanship and our terroir.

Each harvest has gained the vineyard Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) from Wine Standards, allowing the produce to be labelled Welsh Quality Wine. Now the vineyard boasts 13,500 vines and when in full production it should have the capacity to produce circa 30,000 bottles of wine a year, from Sparkling wine, still white and Red wines and a fortified wine aptly named “1581” the date of the oak trusses in Croft Barn.
